Midway Contemporary Art is a nonprofit organization that supports the creation of and reflection upon visual art. Midway facilitates significant new developments in the field and presents audiences with intimate access to visual culture. Founded by artists in 2001, Midway Contemporary Art is a nonprofit, non-collecting visual arts organization in Minneapolis that presents temporary exhibitions, ma

intains a public research library and presents regular public programs. Our exhibitions primarily focus on commissioning and developing new projects with artists who have typically never shown in the Midwest or, often, in the United States. The Midway Contemporary Art Library serves to document, present, and preserve the recent history of contemporary visual art in a public context. Founded in 2007, its objectives are to research, collate, and catalog published material in an effort to provide the most comprehensive and accessible resource for research into contemporary art in the region. A non-circulating collection, the library contains thousands of titles from a wide range of publishers from around the world. While group exhibition catalogs and monographs form the core of the library’s collection, the library also contains reference material, a selection of artist books, DVD’s, and an extensive selection of periodicals and journals. We are currently subscribed to a number of monthly and quarterly publications. Our gallery and contemporary art research library are free and open to the public Wednesdays through Saturdays, 11am to 5pm.

Happy National Library Week!

Nineteen years ago, Midway started a library with a simple belief: books on art, architecture, and design should be available to everyone in our community.

Today, that small idea has grown into a collection of more than 13,000 volumes, with around 500 new titles added each year to keep it fresh, relevant, and inspiring.

If Midway’s library is one of your favorite places—a spot where you’ve discovered a new artist, found inspiration for a project, or simply lost an afternoon among the stacks—we hope you’ll consider supporting it with a donation toward a book from our wishlist (link in bio👆)!

Every donation helps us:
➞ Bring in newly released publications as soon as they hit shelves
➞ Expand into subjects our artists and visitors are curious about
➞ Keep the entire collection free and open to the public

Your contribution buys a book, AND it puts ideas, images, and inspiration directly into the hands of the next person who walks through our doors.

How can I donate?
➞ Browse the books on our wishlist (link in bio👆)
➞ Select the book(s) you’d like to donate to Midway’s library
➞ Complete your donation through the betterworld.org portal (link in bio👆)
➞ You’ll receive an email confirmation for your 100% deductible contribution

THANK YOU for supporting Midway’s Library!

Please join us at Midway on Tuesday, November 4 and Wednesday, November 5 for an exhibition and public programs presented by Juxtaposition Arts’ Environmental Design Lab.

‘Buildings (Blocks) On Broadway: What Matters’ showcases 20-years of youth-led design research by Juxtaposition Arts’ Environmental Design Lab, exploring how architecture, memory, and healing shape the future of North Minneapolis’ Broadway corridor.

Curated by Chango Cummings, the exhibition features scale models, films, maps and research developed by JXTA youth apprentices. The two-day program includes open gallery screenings—featuring ‘What Matters’ (Namir Fearce x JXTA, 2025) and ‘Speak Your Mind’ (PBS x JXTA, 2007)—and a public panel discussion connecting youth, artists, and community leaders in conversation on spatial justice and design futures.

A schedule and details for the exhibition and public programs can be found online at midwayart.org (link in bio). All of Midway’s programs are free and open to the public.
