John McNall got his experience and appreciation for imagery, composition and design as a photographer but eventually took his knowledge into the world of fine art via oil paintings. He found that the brush strokes and volume of the paint created a whole new dimension that cannot be achieved with photography. The different color combinations, the textured canvas, along with having control by adding and subtracting elements as needed, provide unique and beautiful paintings. It frees him from having to take what his photos give him and allowed him to create what he wants. His wide variety of subject matter includes sports, ocean scenes such as boating and surfing, classic cars, nature and other subjects that are not common in the fine art world.
