Humanities Kansas helps tell the stories of towns across Kansas. They support all of us, let's support them!

Breaking news! Humanities Kansas is eligible to receive up to $50,000 from the Mellon Foundation if we can match it dollar for dollar with donations from Kansans. Your donation in any amount will help reach the goal.

The $50,000 challenge grant is in addition to the $200,000 in funds HK is receiving from the Mellon Foundation. While these funds won’t replace the federal operating grant that was terminated in April, they do provide HK time to stabilize and plan for the future after the catastrophic funding cuts.

The sooner we raise the $50,000, the sooner we have access to the Mellon Foundation challenge grant. Every dollar counts. Make your donation today and double your impact. Thank you! https://tinyurl.com/HKDonate

I'm sorry everyone, but Stauth Memorial Museum will be closed today because of road conditions. Stay home and stay safe!

***** NO LONGER CURRENT

UPDATE @ 8:30 a.m.

MULTIPLE HIGHWAY CLOSURES IN SWKS

KDOT has closed multiple highways in southwest Kansas due to high winds, low visibility and snow-packed road conditions. In addition, there have been numerous vehicle crashes and semi-trucks blocking roadways. The highway closures currently include:

• U.S. 50 from Dodge City to Cimarron.
• U.S. 283, from Ness to Jetmore.
• K-96, from Alexander to Ness City.
• K-156, from Garden City to Jetmore.
• U.S. 56, from the K-23 intersection to Dodge City.
• K-25 from Lakin to Ulysses
• U.S. 83, from Scott City to Oakley.
• U.S. 83, from Sublette to U.S. 190.
• U.S. 54, from Meade to Plains.
• K-23, from Dighton to Shields.

Road conditions in the southwest region continue to deteriorate due to the high winds. More highways are expected to close.

Delay travel, STAY HOME if you can.

If you must go, take your time and drive for the conditions. Never crowd our plows, give our crews time and space to work.

Subject: Sign the petition! Governor of Kansas, Kansas State Legislature: Save the Sunflower Summer Program

I signed a petition on Action Network telling Governor of Kansas, Kansas State Legislature to Save the Sunflower Summer Program.

Since 2021, Sunflower Summer has helped tens of thousands of Kansas families explore, learn, and create lasting memories together. It has also driven small business growth and boosted tourism across Kansas by bringing visitors to museums, zoos, nature centers, and historic sites in every corner of the state. But Sunflower Summer is now at risk of being cut. We urge the Governor and Kansas State Legislature to preserve a vital program that benefits both families and our state's economy. Remember, Sunflower Summer is more than just a program, it's a great investment in Kansas. By providing free access to educational and cultural experiences, it strengthens families while fueling economic growth. Without it, Kansas children will lose valuable learning opportunities and small businesses across the state will suffer.
