History hiding in plain sight: did you know there used to be a hotel in Harlingen? Look closely at the lines of the facade on the right. Recognize the 206 Corner Deli? The Harlingen Hotel is to the left. Pretty cool, huh?

Scenes from Dirck Gulick House open house on 3-21-26. Five former MJL library ladies showed up to toast the wonderful news that Mary Jacobs Library will be reopening. Artist Patrice Sprovieri's artwork was on display at our new Art Upstairs Gallery. Private Jonathan Moore, General Washington's body guard, was there too. Special thanks to everyone who helped out. It was a gorgeous day and a good time was had by all. A veritable step back in time!

Montgomery Township's first town meeting, as a body politic, was on Tuesday, March 10, 1772. It was known as Western Precinct, Somerset County at the time. It wasn't until 1798 that the New Jersey State Legislature incorporated the town and named it Montgomery.
Van Harlingen Historical Society continues to offer $100 reward for indisputable proof that its namesake is General Richard Montgomery. Any takers?
