Schuyler County Historical Society, NY The Schuyler County Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt educational organization, supported by donations, memberships and grants.

The Schuyler County Historical Society's mission is to preserve and share the materials of the rich history of our county, located in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of New York State. We have three museums in Montour Falls, NY - the Brick Tavern Museum, the Wickham Rural Life Center and the Lee School Museum - and all are free to visit. Our Research Library is used by researchers from across th

e nation to learn more about the people, places and events in Schuyler County's history. Under current health and safety guidelines, all visitors are required to wear masks. Groups are limited to six, and the total number of visitors is limited to 10. All visitors, volunteers and staff are required to sign in. Use of the Research Library is by appointment only. Did you know that Burdett was once called Tadpole? Burdett was also home to an Opera House, and notice the street names, Factory Street and Mill Street? There's a reason for that!

Join Burdett Historian Marty Evans for a double header on September 19, 2026 Two tours are planned of this important village in the development of Schuyler County. Enjoy one or both tours!

Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy on the village green, pick up something fresh from
Burdett Exchange, or enjoy a snack at Hungry Burd!

The first tour, Historic Burdett North, will start at 10 a.m. from the Old Fire Bell. Then, Historic Burdett South will begin at 1 pm. from the Old Fire Bell. As always, the Walkin' History! series is FREE and open to all.

Join Schuyler County Historian Dr. Gary Emerson and learn more about this small village with big history! Discover things you never knew, and enjoy a wonderful walk around the village. The walking tour will begin at 10 a.m. and the meeting point is the Dutton S. Peterson Memorial Library.
Dress appropriately and wear comfortable shoes, as our walking tours take place rain or shine.
The Walking' History! series is presented in partnership with the Dutton S. Peterson Memorial Library, the Montour Fall Library, and the Watkins Glen Public Library.

Talkin' History "War Journals: Excelsior to Burdett & Beyond"

Burdett Historian Marty Evans has spent a significant amount of time in the past year studying the journals of the men who participated int he Sullivan Campaign. Her talk explores their initial reactions to seeing the lands that became Schuyler County, and their impressions of their mission.

This talk will be held at the Burdett Fire Department at 2:00pm.

***BOOK CLUB - Understanding the Sullivan Campaign of 1779***

Join Schuyler County Historian Dr. Gary Emerson for a deep dive into the Sullivan Campaign of 1779. This reading and discussion group will begin September 3, 2026. The group will read 5 books centering on the Sullivan Campaign and will meet four times during the fall. Meetings will be held from 6 pm until 7:30 pm at the Brick Tavern Museum.

Talkin' History! "Haudenosaunee & the Revolution"

Schuyler County Historian Dr. Gary Emerson explores the Haudenosaunee experience during the American Revolution. The Haudenosaunee, and the Seneca people specifically, lived on and cultivated the lands of Schuyler County for a millennium or more.

Dr. Emerson will explore the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, their tribes, their role in the revolution, and which sides they took.

This talk will be held at the Montour Falls Fire Dept. at 6:00pm!
