Our Story
Scott and Donna Haines are the owners and potters of Bridges Street Pottery. Scott specializes in stoneware, porcelain and raku pottery that is glazed by his wife, Donna. It’s a collaborative effort!
Scott initially became interested in pottery at the age of fourteen after watching a pottery demonstration. He began studying books and literature on pottery and practicing what he learned on an old, forgotten pottery wheel at his school. All of his spare and stolen moments were spent learning, experimenting and practicing his new found passion. That passion that has lasted more than forty years. After high school, Scott volunteered for the U.S. Air Force and served with the Thunderbirds while still practicing pottery. He then went on to earn a fine arts degree from Minot State University in North Dakota, receiving the Twyman Art Scholarship, several university juried art show awards and serving as the ceramic classroom studio supervisor. During his four years at MSU, Scott taught pottery at the Minot Air Force Base Art Center and played a major role in the Minot Arts Council's Artist in the Schools and Parks Program. In 1997, Scott opened Bridges Street Pottery, a gallery and studio. Since then, he has taught pottery at the Carteret Community College, served on the Carteret County Arts Coalition, Art Council of Carteret County board of directors, Carteret County School Systems Visiting Artists Program, Scholastic Art Show Judge and Carteret County Schools Mentor Program.
As for Donna Haines, Scott is the only art teacher she’s ever had. He taught her to throw, glaze, and fire pottery. Now she does all of his glazing, some throwing, and paints, as well as managing the studio and gallery.
The gallery is normally open Monday thru Thursday from noon until 7 p.m., with some extended and weekend hours. To set up an appointment to browse the gallery or to inquire as to whether we are open, please call 252-342-1134 or 252-723-9981.
