We are excited to announce that the Rowan County Arts Center is now home to the Barbara Burns Legacy Collection!

This incredible donation includes more than 200 basket molds and a significant collection of basket weaving materials, valued at over $30,000.

Before her passing earlier this year, Barbara expressed her wish that her collection of molds be used to educate others and continue the tradition of basket making. Thanks to her family, longtime friend Joni Ross, and local basket maker Debbie Howes, we are honored to help carry out that wish.

The collection is now on display at the Arts Center, with classes and weaving opportunities planned for the coming year. In June 2027, we will celebrate Barbara's legacy with a special exhibition of her baskets and a week of Nantucket basket weaving workshops led by master weaver Joni Ross.

We are incredibly grateful to Barbara's family for entrusting us with this remarkable collection and look forward to sharing it with our community for years to come.
