The Moreland Hills Historical Society is a 501(c) 3 not for profit association, organized under the laws of the state of Ohio. Moreland Hills Birthplace of the 20th United States President James A. Garfield 1831-1881.

Our Story

James A. Garfield was an extraordinary, influential man born on November 19, 1831 in Moreland Hills, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. His near poverty and humble beginnings prepared him for a life of servitude as he rose to become a scholar, a Civil War hero, a congressman, and a President. The Moreland Hills Historical Society’s purpose is to bring together those people interested in history and especially in the history of our community. We discover, collect, preserve and disseminate the history of our community with an emphasis on the birth site and youth of President James A. Garfield.
