The upcoming annual Wacipi (powwow) is a great time to visit the Lower Sioux Indian Community.

Taking place June 12–14 this year, it brings together Dakota people and relatives from Tribal Nations across the U.S. and Canada.

Dance is at the center of the Wacipi, with Grand Entry marking the beginning of each session. This year’s Grand Entry times and dates are as follows:

Friday, June 12: 7 PM
Saturday, June 13: 1 PM + 7 PM
Sunday, June 14: 1 PM

Find the full schedule and more here: https://lowersioux.com/wacipi/

The Wacipi is also a perfect opportunity to support Native artists and makers and purchase handcrafted items.

Events will also take place at the Lower Sioux Agency Historic Site and Interpretive Center for those interested in learning more about Dakota history. All are welcome to attend and be part of the gathering, whether to support, learn, or simply spend time in community.

Tourism is a vital part of Minnesota’s economy. This week, the Cansayapi Cultural Department and the Lower Sioux Agency Historic Site are celebrating and promoting what we have to offer.

The Lower Sioux Agency Historic Site is located on the Minnesota Scenic Byway and we’re proud to have cultural and historical offerings to share our Dakota culture, heritage, and way of life.

Our historic site offers tours from April through October. Visitors can go through the exhibit at their own pace as they learn about the Dakota way of life spanning back centuries.

We’re also grateful to have plenty of space outside with trails and interpretive signage for those who want to learn about our history while in nature.

All of this is possible because of the dedicated staff at the historic site whom we are grateful to. We hope you’ll put us on your list to visit this tourism season!

If you want to stay for a few days, the Jackpot Junction Casino and Hotel is a great lodging option to take advantage of. See you soon!
