Start your day with a refreshing movement and stretch on the Moundville lawn! On May 28 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. we'll have an all-levels outdoor class, led by a local instructor, that blends gentle movement with nature. The class features a blend of gentle flow pilates. Bring a yoga mat or towel and join us for a mindful session.

On Saturday, May 16, Dylan Taylor will take Moundville Archaeological Park visitors on guided hikes focused on identifying invasive plants at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. We’ll cover common species you’re likely seeing right now, including Callery pear, non-native wisteria, and heavenly bamboo (nandina), and talk about their impact on local ecosystems.

Now available in our gift shop! This Choctaw river cane basketry was handcrafted by Hershel Monk of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, one of the few remaining Choctaw basket makers.

Woven from uksi (river cane), these tvpishuk baskets carry forward over 100 generations of knowledge.

Moundville Archaeological Park joined our partners at the Antonio J. Waring, Jr. Center for Public Archaeology for their open house on the campus of University of West Georgia.

Alongside our community partners at the Booth Western Art Museum, we engaged learners of all ages in hands-on conversations about the first peoples of the Southeast. Participants explored Muscogean pottery motifs and learned how natural ochres were traditionally used as pigments.

This month, Moundville Archaeological Park and Museum was honored to participate in the Southeastern Festivals and Events Association conference in Tuscaloosa as part of the panel “Cultural Events Done Right: Representation Without Tokenization.”

We shared how the Indigenous principle of relational accountability guides our work with Tribal communities, and shape our annual festivals and programs in ways that prioritize respect, collaboration, and continuity.
