Before Route 72.
Before Route 117.
Before most people even owned automobiles.
Visitors arrived in Mount Gretna by train, then explored the community on foot — or, for a time, rode a narrow gauge railroad toward the grand Hotel Conewago, the National Guard Rifle Range, and on to the summit of Governor Dick.
Today it’s easy to overlook just how innovative and connected this little woodland community was in its early days.
Join the Mount Gretna Area Historical Society for the first guided walking tour of the season and discover some of the stories still hiding in plain sight around the Pennsylvania Chautauqua grounds.
