Mt. Pleasant/Maury Museum of Local History In 1991, a group of friends met at a local restaurant with an idea to preserve the town's rich history. Thirty-four years their legacy lives on.

Come visit the museum where history rocks. Admission is free. gift shop on-site. The Museum has exhibits on three floors in the Old First National Bank Building which was donated to the Museum President Irene Dugger in 1996. We are fully handicap accessible.

First part of the storm blew through downtown and museum had a little damage. Thank goodness the Mount Pleasant Police came and blocked off the area until I can get someone to repair. The upper half of the gutter is barely hanging on. Praying it does not fall before Monday.

The museum has Mule Day programs. If you need one come pick one up. They are at the front. 10 am to 3 pm.

With a broken heart I must announce that Mt. Pleasant's on talented son Wade Cummins stage name Elvis Wade has died. Wade was born on Watts Hill. His history and story have been documented in out town's history. Fly high on those wings of gold my dear friend. Please keep his children and rest of the family in your prayers.

The museum will be open the 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23, and 24th of December from 10 am to 5 pm for Christmas. The museum will be closed from December 25the until January 21st, 2026.
