Summer is almost here, and we've got the bullfrogs to prove it! 🐸 Our Eager Explorers early childhood class spotted some frogs at the Nature Center yesterday. Bullfrogs spend winter in an underwater dormant state called brumation and have to wait for the water to warm up before they can emerge, so they show up later than the terrestrial frogs of the area, like wood frogs. They're finally starting to get a move on and their mating season is just beginning.
Once their eggs hatch we will have plenty of opportunities to find their tadpoles later in the summer: pond dipping is a Summer Nature Camp tradition, and we have a free pond dipping-themed Adventures in Nature program for children in June.
