Celebrated annually on March 2, we commemoratethe adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independence in 1836. Fifty nine delegates at Washington-on-the-Brazos formally declared Texas a free and independent republic, separating from Mexico during the Texas Revolution. This pivotal action, taken while the Alamo was under siege, led to the formation of the “Republic of Texas”

E.J. Campbell came to Nacogdoches in 1910, appointed principal of Nacogdoches Colored School. For the next 27 years, Campbell oversaw a growing school and expanded opportunities in public education offered to Black Nacogdoches students. Today, 116 years later, an NISD facility still bears his name.

The Mark Easley Home

When you enter Mark’s home, you will encounter many Christmas memories of yesteryear. Vintage Christmas decorations, nativity scenes, and several themed Christmas trees will surely evoke happy Christmas memories of the past.

There is also an extensive collection of framed autographs and movie posters of Hollywood’s golden era.

Another fun collection on display includes several vintage metal lunchboxes from the 1960s and 1970s.
