"The Art of Attraction"
When I was a teenager I used to spend way too much time getting ready before going out, picking the right shirt, putting on cologne, trying to catch someone's eye. It's a pretty natural instinct. We want to look our best when we're trying to get someone's attention.

Nature isn't so different.

During mating season these birds go through a change of their own. Their plumage grows long and dramatic, the color around their eyes deepens, and every detail seems built to be noticed. It's their way of saying, look at me, I'm here.

What I find even more interesting is what comes next. Courtship isn't only about looking good. There's a whole ritual of approaching, winning someone over, and in some species, even offering small gifts.

Watching this unfold, I keep thinking we're not so different from the birds after all. Dressing well helps. A little cologne never hurts. But the real secret is never losing that instinct to surprise the person you're trying to win over.

Even the birds know a gift can open a heart, and that's an instinct worth holding on to.
That's one of my favorite things about photographing nature. The more I watch, the more small stories I find that end up being about us too.

When my spirit wants to connect with creation, with the universe, I don’t need to travel to hidden places.

I simply enter into gratitude, live in the present, and connect with the sea, the mangroves, and the silence.

Then I wait.

For the light.
For the stillness.
For the balance.

And this time, a Snowy Egret gave me the final piece I needed to complete the photograph.

This is not just a picture.
It’s a moment frozen forever.

I’ve walked the beaches of Naples and Marco Island for seven years, and I’ve learned that no sunset repeats itself. No light ever returns exactly the same way.

But every once in a while, everything aligns—the light, the sea, the birds, and the calm.

And when it does, all you can do is be present. Feel the peace. Sit in the silence. And be grateful for the privilege of witnessing something that existed for only an instant.

Through photography, that instant gets to live forever.

That’s what I try to hold onto in every image I create:

A little piece of peace.
A fleeting moment of beauty.
Frozen forever.

You know that walk on the beach under a cloudy sunset, the sea mist landing soft on your face, the Gulf breaking against the shore like a melody made just for whatever you're carrying that day. You keep walking and somewhere in there you disconnect from all the noise, and when you come back to yourself you almost can't believe you already passed this spot.
That's what happens to me out here, when I start connecting with the thing I love doing. These gulls were resting on the pilings and I envied how still they were. And I thought, it only takes one piling to find peace. One simple piling, where you sit with the solitude, the silence, and the gratitude of being alive in that moment.

These past few days have been incredibly difficult for me.
My father's open-heart surgery is scheduled for August 12, and the stress and uncertainty have been overwhelming. Like many of us do during life's hardest moments, I searched for a place where I could find a little peace.
For me, that place has always been the forest, my camera, and the healing presence of nature.
A few days ago, I took a quiet walk along this beautiful river, surrounded by the sounds of the forest and the beauty of Mother Earth. For a little while, the weight on my heart felt lighter. I slowed down, breathed deeply, and photographed the moments that spoke to my soul.
These are a few of the images I created during that walk. They reminded me that even in uncertain times, nature has an incredible way of restoring hope, peace, and strength.
I hope these photographs bring you a little of the same calm they brought me. And if you could keep my father and our family in your thoughts and prayers as we approach August 12, it would mean the world to us.

I was walking the beach when I found a moment I will never forget. A baby sea turtle had just left the nest and was running for the water, out to see the world for the first time. I stood still and watched. Every step she took was a small victory. She would run, then stop to feel the current and listen to the sea, and then run again.

A seagull started circling over her path, and the fear did not stop her. She kept going, all that life in her, across the little stretch of sand between the nest and the water. Right before the sea took her she lifted her head and looked at me, one long look, and then the current carried her home. The sea was always where she belonged.

I made this photograph in the seconds before she reached the water. It is one of the most meaningful pieces I have ever taken, and it lives on aluminum the way I saw it that morning. Three pieces, up on the wall. Two of Naples Pier and one of the palms out on the Gulf.

I love watching a wall come together like this. On its own a room can feel finished, and then the art goes up and you realize what was missing. The pier in the morning, the pier at sunset, the palms leaning into the light. Together they tell the whole story of this coast in one wall.

I delivered and hung these myself, the way I do with every piece. Measured, leveled, set right, and I do not leave until it looks the way it should.

⛱️Naples Pier, before the hurricane took it.

I will be honest with you. I love this place. I came to Naples seven years ago and it took hold of me the way a place does when it feels like home before you have the words for it.
The light, the quiet mornings, the water going gold at the end of the day. I have photographed this pier more times than I can count and it still gives me something new every evening I show up for it.

This was one of those evenings when everything came together. The tide going out over the sand, the gold spreading low across the water, people still walking the pier and watching the sun drop into the Gulf.

A storm changed all of that. The pier so many of us walked out on at sunset, the one we have a photo with somewhere, is gone now. I am so glad I have this one.

There is a stillness to the pilings that I keep coming back to. They stand in the same water year after year, and on the right morning, when the wind drops and everything goes quiet, the water turns to glass and the color comes up soft and turquoise. I wait a long time for that. You cannot rush it and you cannot plan it.

This piece now lives in a beautiful Naples home, one large image holding the whole wall. The part you are watching at the end is my favorite of all of it. I print every piece on aluminum, then I deliver it and hang it myself, and I do not leave until it is level and the room feels finished.

I stood on the sand for almost two hours before the ocean did this, and then it was gone before I could breathe. It was early on Florida's Atlantic coast, the sky still gray and almost no one out. The swell had been building all morning and I kept waiting, the way I learned to wait years ago photographing birds in Ecuador. Then the light caught the inside of the wave and the whole thing turned this impossible turquoise, the color of glass lit from behind. I pressed the shutter once, and the ocean never gave me that exact gift again.

This is the Naples dream life as I see it, the quiet, the color, and the feeling of the coast living on your wall long after the morning is over.
