Our main exhibit buildings are wheelchair-accessible. Bathroom facilities are available in the Visitor Building and the Metz Exhibit Building. A baby-changing station is in the Metz Exhibit Building. Policies and Guidelines

Please do not disturb the animals. Animals are unpredictable; horns, hooves, teeth and beaks can cause injury. Walk carefully -- large farm animals may have preceded you. Smoking is not permitted inside our buildings. Eating and drinking are permitted only with permission from a staff member. Please, for your own safety, do not walk or climb on fences, walls, trees or farm machines. Service animals may be admitted. Pets are allowed only on a leash.

Why did the Rhode Island Red become the state bird?
In 1854, William Tripp, a farmer in Little Compton, added a newly purchased Maylay chicken to his established flock of Brown Leghorns. The result was future generations of chicks that were remarkably hearty, strong, and abundant egg-layers.

“Tripps fowl” became the first commercially successful chicken breed thanks to it's all-purpose nature. You have one more chance to come to visit our heritage flock of Rhody Reds at the museum before we close for the winter. Stop by tomorrow between 10-4 while they enjoy their favorite treat - pumpkins!

We're wheelie excited for Bike Day THIS FRIDAY! To celebrate, enjoy this BSA track bicycle from our collection. 🚴‍♀️

This racing bike, gifted to SCM by Richard Casey, was used at the Lonsdale race track in Pawtucket, operating from 1947 to 1956. It has balloon tires on wooden rims, one gear and no brakes!

Come check it out up close at Bike Day on October 1st from 3-5pm. Hop on the South County Bike Path after school and head to the museum for a day of bike safety and history the whole family will enjoy. Don't forget to register 👉bit.ly/scmbikeday

Visiting South County Museum *Please Note that the car entrance to South County Museum is from Strathmore Street only. Museum access cannot be made from Anne Hoxsie Lane. Sorry for any confusion. Admissions Hours and Rates South County Museum’s exhibits are open to the general public from the first weekend in May through September. Special arrangements can be made for October by calling the museum. From October - April, the office is open Wednesdays 10am-1pm. Spring and Fall Hours — May, June & September: Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Summer Hours — July & August: Tuesday-Saturday, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
