Fort Negley Fort Negley: The largest inland stone fortification built during the Civil War Fort Negley Park is open dawn until dusk for self guided walking tours.

Fort Negley, built by Union forces following the surrender of Nashville in 1862, protected the southern approaches to Nashville. The Visitors Center offers films on the history of Fort Negley, the surrender of Nashville and the Battle of Nashville. Guided group and school tours are available with advanced reservations.
