Grace Netanya's “Slander”
On display now in our online exhibit Wandering Stars.

Statement:
Like a dream, my works resemble real-life, but with distortion around the aspects that may be difficult for the mind to confront. As with an ancient fairy-tail, a "fantasy" story allows the viewer to process a difficult yet relevant topic in a way that is both honest and entertaining. I am especially interested in discussing the experiences of children. This goes along well with my idea of “visual mythology”, as stories are often used to instill lessons and ideas in children when a more literal explanation may not make sense to them. Children often use imagination in order to fill in the gaps of their understanding. By depicting the fantastical interacting with reality, I illustrate what is in a sense, a more accurate example of a child’s experience.

Grace Netanya is an artist and storyteller whose art combines contemporary and traditional ideas to create an art fusion that is both Avant-Garde and introspective.

Lara Lenhoff's “Underlying Issues” on display now in our Wandering Stars exhibition online.

This piece explores the isolation and struggles in a changing world that no longer seems to make sense, while trying to adapt and put the pieces together and taking things as they come, one day at a time. We feel misunderstood so much more than ever before and the loneliness can be consuming and overwhelming. There is a longing for strong connections, but it seems almost impossible to form them. The piece won 2nd Place in an international abstract painting contest.

Lara Lenhoff is an abstract painter originally from Cape Town, South Africa. The energy that influences her to create what she does visually is inspired by the music she is listening to, which contributes to the release of emotions and color palette she utilizes. Her work reflects the many layers that we have individuals; all with brilliant flaws, faults, and cracks.

"Glass Wall" by Larissa Patel (Atlanta, GA)
painted silver gelatin emulsion photography , 16 x20 in
Available online in our Wandering Stars exhibit.

Larissa Patel is an internationally known artist currently in the Atlanta area. Much of her work deals with the saudade of people through isolation and loss. Art has been able to express the wistful yearning for connection and belonging that words and experiences can not. In these works, she uses herself as a model but evokes the universal. She uses a combination of pinhole, paint on emulsions, and digital technology to create her final images.

On exhibition in Wandering Stars, our international art exhibit exploring themes of isolation, desolation, and otherworldliness. corvidaegallery.com

Sally Jacob is a UK based fantasy artist, whose artwork often explores the darker/Steampunk side of faery and taking in a mix of themes and genres. Mermaids and Fae creatures are the focus of her current work, along with her current exploration of fairy tales and myth and the psychology behind them.

Pre-Raphaelite influences are merged with something darker to create edgy paintings filled with emotion and quirky compositions. Sally paints from her small home studio in the Somerset countryside and works in acrylics on canvas.

Artist Statement:
Telling narratives about chronic illness, mental health, healing, and gender through art making helps me better understand my own experience as well as others. My intent is to bring a contemporary perspective that creates a dialog centering on empathy and awareness.

The personal side of the work stemmed from living with a brain tumor, bipolar disorder, and never quite feeling like my gender identity was female or male. These investigations through art making are both insular and outward. Folks within similar spaces as well as myself are often subjects in the work.

Destiney Hett's "Speak No Evil" is included in our Wandering Stars exhibit online. The original is not available, but prints can be purchases.

This portrait depicts a fierce woman with scorpion grass crawling out of her mouth. Opposing the three wise monkey proverbs, this subject is angry about silence being forced upon her. Silence is a term women deal with often. At times we are stifled, ignored, or unheard. When this concern is voiced we are called overbearing or told to quiet down. As a woman, this constant pressure from society to be softer, quieter, and smaller can be very isolating.

We adore Emily Cathcart's "Gwyn and Yolo" which is part of her series ""Above the Level of Oneness" The piece is available in our Wandering Stars exhibit online now. www.corvidaegallery.com

The series that focuses on the universal state of sleep that makes all beings exist on a common plane and yet remains a completely solitary experience. We thereby need to separate from all to become one with everything.

Emily Cathcart is a symbolist painter whose work is a unique blend of truth to nature, imaginative symbolism and thought provoking ambiguity.
