The Artifact Alphabet this week is K! K is for key.
Keys are common artifacts used in everyday life. One of the keys in the museum’s collection was used by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. On one side, the key is stamped “L&N R.R.” and “C.” On the back, it says “Speckmann Lou KY.”
The “C” on the key means it unlocked one of the cars. Railroad companies often stamped codes on their keys to help identify what each key unlocked.

Abigail and Cheyenne had a great time in Greeneville, TN this time last week. They picked up artifacts on loan from the Greeneville Green County History Museum and visited some local historic sites.

It is Farmers Market Season!

Our toddlers know that for sure. These little learners had a blast hearing about how farmers markets connect communities and support local agriculture. They also made their own market stall to take home. Thank you to everyone that participated in our first Toddler Series!

This was the last toddler program of the season. Our Summer Friday series starts May 29. Reservations are available on our Eventbrite.

Bear with us — it is Forester Friday!

We are grateful for the Tennessee foresters who came to the museum and showcased their skills. Participants learned about saw-cutting and shingle-making. We were then greeted by the bear himself. Smokey Bear stopped by, and everyone had a chance to get a photo with our beloved bear. Participants also took home their own bear paw.

Reminder: This was our last First Friday for the season. We are transitioning into Summer Fridays. Reservations for all Summer Fridays will open Monday, May 4, 2026, at 9 a.m. CT. First Fridays will resume in August.

The Tennessee Department of Agriculture, the Tennessee Agricultural Museum and the OFAMA Board were proud to host the fourth annual Spring Crank Up on April 25, 2026, at Ellington Agricultural Center.

From vintage tractors and farm equipment to live horse-and-plow demonstrations, this year’s event was a wonderful celebration of Tennessee’s agricultural heritage. America 250 was also woven throughout the Crank Up, adding even more meaning to a day centered on history, community and the next generation.

Thank you to everyone who came out and made this year’s event so special. We hope to see you next year for the 2027 Spring Crank Up!
