The Andrew Jackson Foundation recently announced a new $132 million plan to modernize visitor facilities and infrastructure while returning the landscape around the Mansion to the appearance of its agricultural past.
As part of this work, a new operations facility outside the historic area allowed several outdated buildings to be removed. Built between 1930 and 1941, the Maintenance Building, Pump House, and East Field Barn were demolished, while the wings of the Storage Barn were removed, leaving its original brick core intact for adaptive reuse. All four buildings were documented before the work began to preserve their history.
A special thank-you to Patriot Demolition Services LLC for helping us take this important first step.
Next comes a new ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐จ๐ซ ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ญ ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ซ, designed by Perkins&Will and thoughtfully sited to better integrate with the historic landscape. It will give visitors a place to pause, recharge, and get oriented before exploring the site.
The Visitor Comfort Center is the first step in a larger transformation that will also include a new museum, designed by Perkins&Will, and new interpretive experiences developed with Gallagher & Associates, LLC.
