The Ealy House Museum A Civil War-Era Farmhouse
Tours available through the New Albany-Plain Township Historical Society Built in 1860 by George and Christina Ealy.

George Ealy was a member of the second generation of a pioneer family which settled in Plain Township in 1830. He was a prosperous farmer and operator of a sawmill on Rose Run behind the Ealy House. The building is important for its historical associations, transitional architecture, and its fine wood and brick work produced by local craftsmen. The Ealy House was entered on the National Register i

n 2008. Support for the Ealy House Museum is provided by the City of New Albany and by generous donations of members and friends of the New Albany Plain Township Historical Society.

If you visit The Ealy House Museum this Sunday afternoon, there’s a chance you’ll spot New Albany’s own Pig Bear getting into the Christmas spirit! The museum will be open to visitors from 1-4PM on Sunday November 23. WINIFRED BREEGLE & THE NAVAJO CODE TALKERS OF WWII
NOVEMBER 5 (Wednesday) -- 7:00 p.m.
New Albany Library, 200 Market Street, New Albany

NAPTHS member David Gerhardt will present the incredible story of Winifred Breegle who served as a cryptographer in the Navy’s WAVES from 1944 until 1949. Her exceptional coding and decoding skills, coupled with her groundbreaking work with the Navajo Code talkers, were essential to the war effort. Thanks to her work, critical information was provided to wartime commanders, military leaders, and the White House to impact the war and bring it to end. Her service helped blaze a trail for future generations of military women.
