We’re so excited to let you know that our summer hours are expanding so you’ll have more time to browse and select your perfect gift for yourself or that special person in your life. CAGS artists have fiber work, customized jackets and jewelry, pottery that is whimsical and useful, paintings in every medium and subject.

We’re now open every single day:

Monday 10-1:30
Tuesday 10-1:30
Wednesday 10-5
Thursday 10-5
Friday 10-7:30 (till 8 on Artwalk)
Saturday 10-5
Sunday 12:30-4

We look forward to seeing and talking to you and helping you find your heart’s desire in art. There are always two artists on hand to answer any questions. And Artwalk, on every second Friday from 5-8, is always special with live entertainment and refreshments to share.

Although we miss having the Plein air painters who contributed to our front window last month, we have new works available under the theme of “Life’s a Beach.” Our gallery artists have taken it to heart and have given us their beautiful renditions for that phrase. These are just a few of the treasures available at CAGS. If you see something you love, come in and speak to one of the artists working at the front desk. Nineteen members of Coastal Carolina Plein Air Painters (CCPAP) painted for the New Bern Heritage Homes Tour in a bit of sunshine and a lot of rain. 1st place awarded to Susan Cheatham, 2nd place to Alex Holton, and 3rd place to Marsha Dunlap. Congratulations to everyone who participated and special kudos to two of these wonderful artists who are part of CAGS! Susan’s floral and Alex’s paintings are available for purchase. Come on down.

We had a very busy and successful ArtWalk last Friday helped by the great weather, artists painting outside the gallery, and visitors looking for that “special” gift. Thanks go out to everyone who helped, especially Noreen Jekel and her husband who kindly volunteer to distribute refreshments at every Art Walk. Special thanks to Brant Island Strings for providing our live music that evening.

The Art Show called ROY G BIV held by the Bank of the Arts was a huge success. Many of CAGS gallery members participated and helped fill the walls with their colorful and beautiful works. Here are some of the selections that were judged this year.

There was a separate category for students who answered the call with their colorful and whimsical pieces of art.

Pieces were judged by best color representation, honorable mention in each color, and one best piece overall. Congratulations to all who won in their color category.

Did you know that CAGS Studios has an emerging artist program? Our wonderful artist Joyce Stratton keeps this program up and running, selecting a new artist to feature every three months. The artist for April-June is Don Zeringue who has been a painter for many years. His watercolor paintings of scenes “Along the Twin Rivers” are being featured in the upstairs studio gallery. Be sure to stop in and see his amazing work.

We had an amazing Open Easels event this year that was part of Artwalk on April 10th and extended to Saturday, April 11th, from 10-2 at the Harrison Center. A huge thank you to all the undiscovered artists who participated. Your art was fabulous, and we enjoyed hosting you very much. The participants’ work is posted below so you can see how extraordinary it was.

Also, we extend a thank you to the CAGS members who volunteered to make this annual event a wonderful success, especially Janet Hikes who led and directed Open Easels under our Outreach Program. If you know anyone who would like to participate next year, please put the word out and we’ll be happy to touch base with them for next April.
