Brian Cooley

For over 20 years, Brian Cooley’s artwork has been a means to entertain himself, communicate his thoughts and feelings, as well as tell stories from his special perspective.

From this simple beginning his artwork has progressed to a story board style using India ink and oil paint markers. Now with the help of his friends and family, he is able to present, to the public, his sense of humor and unique way of telling stories to the world. It’s a rare look into a very special person and his mind.

Brian’s mother, Margaret, who guides him day to day, and his brother, Bob, a professional photographer in New York, are very influential and encouraging in his endeavor. They have now set up a business for him called “Brian’s Brain.

You see, Brian Cooley has Autism, which is a spectrum disorder. Every autistic person faces different challenges from physical abilities to their IQ level. Brian has a high IQ and has been able to read since he was three. Other skills have to be taught to him because he has minimal instincts. But, that hasn’t stopped this talented man.

He believes, “Things are only unreachable if you don’t reach for them”.

Birdie’s collages blend poetic verses along with sheet music from her father, who was the head cellist for the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. She has been painting for over 30 years, and is inspired by such greats as, Chagall, Braque, Van Gogh, Matisse and Monet. Birdie was chosen as Women of the Year for the Art, Literature & Culture in South Bend, Indiana in 2004. She has had many one woman shows in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Washington D.C. and the Virgin Islands. Also lending her expertise to this gala weekend, Sherrill Newman will bring a very select grouping of semi-precious gemstone jewelry for your enjoyment. Sherrill has been creating one of a kind gem stone pieces of jewelry since 1987. She began while attending Iowa State University, where she joined a co-op that showed their works at shows nationwide. Her work with all natural gemstones in a dazzling array of colors is delicate and very creative.
