In 2025, in Laodicea, Turkey, archaeologists uncovered a two-meter marble statue of Athena during excavations of an ancient theater. The goddess is depicted wearing a peplos and cloak, with the head of Medusa on her chest, a symbol traditionally associated with her. The statue is finely detailed on the front, suggesting it was meant to be viewed from one side. Stylistic analysis indicates it may date to the time of Octavian Augustus, around the late 1st century BC to early 1st century AD.
