HANCOCK COUNTY MUSEUM LECTURE SERIES

The last in our 2021 Summer Lecture Series will be at the HCM, 1008 Ridge Ave., New Cumberland, on Sunday October 31st at 2:00. Paul Zuros will speak on "Chilling Stories of the Past," when he will touch on a few spooky stories, some from Steubenville, but most from the WV side of the river, with a ghost story of Colliers, a tale from Three Springs Cemetery, and one from the Pleasant Valley Country Club area. Fred Miller will recount the tale about the man who wanted to be buried both in PA and WV, and how he accomplished that. After these two speak, we will invite the audience to ask questions and to share their scary stories with us.

Refreshments will be available after the lecture, and the event, as always, is free and open to the public, although donations are always greatly appreciated.

Hope to see you there! And feel free to come in costume. The house is decorated inside for Halloween. (It's been too windy to put anything on the porch.).

First, a great many thanks to R&R Construction Group and Vinci Corp. for their expertise to restore the Marshall home to its original grandeur. Their engineering proficiency and historical research proved essential to completing the project in the most accurate and beautiful manner.

The most recent restoration of the box gutters in the rear of the house and rebuild of the front porch and side porch box gutters, and box bay window, represents Phase 2 of a long-term rehabilitation. Phase I completed in 2017 restored the box gutters and frieze panels along the western front and southern side of the building. The last phase, which is yet to be funded, requires the repair of window frames, with some replacements required.

Lastly, a very special recognized appreciation to R&R Construction Group for so much donated work including a new entry sidewalk, restored signage, coated sandstone, extra painting, and of course a nearly complete rebuild of the front and side porches which far exceeded the original scope of work. THANK YOU ever so much!

With a significant number of cases in the COVID pandemic, the Hancock County Museum hopes to host an Open House in the Spring to show off this beautifully restored home as the newest jewel in New New Cumberland.
