Founded in 1979, Studio 33 is known to generations of locals as the “go to” for quality, archival and conservation framing, restoration; and interesting New London County artists exhibitions. Studio 33 specializes in supporting and showcasing local artists, artisans, and art collectors. The woman owned and operated gallery, gift, and frame shop, with on site production, located in the heart of the Cultural District, at 140 Bank Street, in the historic Captain Smith House c.1840, next to the Custom House Maritime Museum & New London Maritime Society; is one of the longest established businesses in downtown New London, CT.
Coastal accents abound throughout the gallery, from original paintings, prints, and photography seascapes, handmade sea glass earrings, one of a kind shell decor, to lighthouse paintings on locally sourced bricks and paper maquette kits depicting
familiar New London landmarks, all bearing a maritime perspective. Munro speaks for Studio 33 and New London itself as she shares the sentiment, “We have so much to offer, it’s all here, waiting for new visitors to discover.”

I am a pastel artist who enjoys painting the world around me. I have included a variety of my work in this show, from flowers to cloudy days at the beach. My pastels are quiet and tend to be an examination of nature up close or open spaces, where one can breathe the Fresh Air.

Some of Laura Natusch’s happiest childhood memories are of painting the woods and barn in her backyard or of dashing off watercolors while vacationing with her parents. However, after graduating from Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in painting, she drifted away from art until she moved to New London, where she began meeting artists, visiting galleries, and feeling inspired and supported by the city’s artistic community.
She started painting regularly again six years ago after submitting a postcard-sized painting for a fundraiser/exhibit hosted by Studio 33. Since then, she’s rediscovered how painting from observation helps her see beauty all around her. She hopes her work will help viewers see the beauty that surrounds them, too.

“Painting helps me slow down and notice the beauty all around us.” - Laura Natusch
