Founded in 1954, The New London Historical Society is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that maintains a 19th Century-style village and museum. The mission of the New London Historical Society is to preserve the history of the New London area by conserving artifacts, collaborating with other local and regional organizations, and presenting educational programs and events that replicate experiences
of yesteryear. The Historical Village, set on eight acres of land in the heart of New London, NH, serves as a classroom for local schools and small groups; is the site of a children’s summer camp; and serves as the backdrop for many local artisans. During the spring, summer and fall seasons, the Village offers both docent- and tablet-guided tours through its fifteen buildings, which include a transportation museum housing an extensive collection of restored horse-drawn carriages and sleighs. The Program and Events Committees offer monthly programs that highlight local and national figures and events from the 19th Century. Our tours and programs provide opportunities for visitors to imagine life as it was over 150 years ago. We have an extensive collection of artifacts from the 1800s that are exhibited throughout the Village and are germane to the former use of each historical building. The Collections and Acquisition Committee works diligently to record these artifacts, and our digital catalog is linked to the New Hampshire Historical Society with other statewide collections.
