New Orleans gave the world a lot of things. The second line groove might be the most underrated.

That syncopated pocket you feel in brass bands and Black Masking Indian music didn't stay in the streets. It’s basically the DNA of modern funk and hip-hop. The Meters and Dr. John took it to the studio and showed the world what it could do. Producers have been sampling it for decades.

In New Orleans, the rhythm doesn't just get played. It gets passed down.
