Thanks to all of our supporters who voted for the Backstreet Cultural Museum! We won a grant from Tourism Cares' Save Our Sites Program for $2500. This grant will help us to educate the public on our collections and the parading traditions we support and document. Tourism Cares supports significant historic and cultural destinations throughout the world for future generations.

We just conducted our first of several Mardi Gras Indian sewing workshops for neighborhood kids. Mardi Gras Indian chiefs are passing on the tradition of masking Indian to area children. We are developing more educational and public programs as I type, so stay tuned. Meanwhile, check out pics from our first weekend of sewing with the kids! It was a lot of fun!

Our annual Back-to-School picnic providing school supplies and entertainment to area children will be held Sept. 4. Please call 504-522-4806 for more information, and bring any school supply donations to the museum at 1116 St. Claude St. Help support our area children!
