Vitus Shell's solo exhibition GOLD STANDARD opens soon!

Vitus Shell has an impressive solo and group exhibition record, recent notables include Multiplicity: Blackness in Contemporary American Collage (traveling exhibition), Museum of Fine Art, Houston. Unthinkable Imagination: A Creative Response to the Juvenile Justice Crisis, Newcomb Art Museum, Tulane University, New Orleans, LA. and Bout it Bout it: The Political Power of Just Being, (traveling exhibition) Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, Winston Salem, NC. In addition, Shell has received numerous grants and residencies, including Crosstown Arts, Anderson Ranch, Bemis Center for the Contemporary Arts, Mass MoCA, Joan Mitchell Center, New Orleans, Skowhegan School of Art, Tougaloo Art Colony, and Camille Hanks-Cosby Scholarship, and was named Louisianan Artist of the Year by Louisiana Life magazine for 2021.

We are proud to announce
“YR 1 REMIX,” showcasing IBIS’ first- year soloists, Jason DeMarte, Chris Hydman, Scherezade Garcia, Louis Marinaro, Sarah Navasse and Austin Uzor. These artists represent a broad and international perspective, and although all are currently based in the States, their native lands include France, Canada, Dominican Republic, United States, and Nigeria. The artworks in this exhibition display a variety of cultural influences, forms, and subjects that are unified by IBIS’ intent to display works that are both exquisitely crafted and impactful. The exhibition runs March 1st through April 29th with a reception on Saturday, March 4th from 5pm to 9 pm during the Arts District of New Orleans’ Art Walk.

Must see in person this rich and impasto paint handling by Lilian Garcia-Roig, one of many landscape inspired paintings currently on view in our exhibition “An Outside Chance” Garcia-Roig has a formidable professional record, exhibiting around the world in museums and galleries as well as a recipient of numerous prestigious awards. Most recently, she was named a Guggenheim fellow, as well as in 2017 was a Joan Mitchell artist-in-residence. Garcia-Roig is the current Chair of FSU’s Art Department and is based in Tallahassee.
