A fascinating lecture was given by historian Sally Asher yesterday evening to the Tour Guides Association of Greater New Orleans about the social and political landscape leading up to the creation of Storyville, as well as the chronicles of “Red-Light Bill,” Storyville’s faithful and well-loved police dog. Thank you to the Mardi Gras Museum of Costumes and Culture for cohosting the event with us.

New at Storyville: Come pet the beaver… no it’s not what your dirty minds are thinking. In the 1800s, pelts like these were shipped down the Mississippi through Nola to Europe, where they became the finest and priciest hats of the day. A piece of history you can actually feel.
