AN EXHIBITION OF SCULPTURAL WORKS BY SLY WATTS

OPENING RECEPTION IS THIS SATURDAY (MAY 9), 6-10PM

[I’ve been fairly quiet about my visual artwork for some time. I’m finally deciding to be more visible with my work, despite where I am currently in my process. I’ve realized that I don’t have to make sense to others throughout my process. I now understand that it is more important to just make the thing EXIST first, & to create the space for the work to exist. I’m getting out of my own way & allowing it all to take up some space. Developing these sculptures by hand has been cathartic & also meditative. These works are based on new songs that I’m writing which makes the sculptures that much more special to me. Hopefully you all come out Saturday to see the works or just come say hey. Thanks.]

i’m finally releasing some old songs on all DSPs + a few more.

i also used my time last fall at to work on my wire sculpture series. i’ll finally be sharing this work at next month.

DESCRIPTIONS OF EACH SLIDE BELOW ⬇️

10 - same jam, (funny story) i’d been hanging out earlier that night with (small world!) who was also in nyc & happened to be staying in williamsburg. i told her to pull up IMMEDIATELY & asked the band to have her sit in & play the bass for the beginning of their 2nd set (she & i actually were supposed to play a show on this trip, which fell through so it worked out anyway haha!)

I decided this time around, I wont exhibit artwork here, but that I will turn room 1 at into a residency for myself, which means the room wont be open to the public through a lot of this month. (No one said I can’t do this) I’ll be spending the next 4 weeks in a workflow that is intense and aimed at completing new sculptural, illustrated, and animated works, along with TONS of new written music and lyrics. I’ll be documenting as much of this process as possible and treating this space like my hamster cage, as a mad man. There may be opportunities to witness me in the space, making beats, jamming, discussing my work, or developing on visual pieces that connect directly to my music. I’ve been mapping this out for a while, and am excited to lock in and finally contextualize everything in my creative world for everyone to understand better. Grateful for for making this suggestion as well.

As you could imagine, please everyone try not to stress little ol me out in the next 4 weeks, I might actually collapse.
