I’ve been wanting to do a Mad Hatter piece for a long time now. The inspiration came from being a judge for years, at the Mad Hatter‘s Fashion Show where the guest arrive wearing their handmade hats. Stephanie suggested that I paint myself as the Hatter. I was reluctant to do it at first, but she’s tends to have good ideas.

“Uptown Garden” is a locals favorite in New Orleans. “I enjoyed creating a work that celebrates the classic ‘shotgun style’ home that is so loved in Nola. I was raised in one.” The term ‘shotgun house’ derives from the idea that if all doors are opened, one could stand at the front door and fire one shot through the house and the shot would exit through the back door without hitting any walls. Shotgun houses were originally inexpensive and built for the working class but have become some of the most celebrated homes in New Orleans. Print measures 15.5 x 29.5 (17.5 x 33 with white border)
