📚 Save the Date! 2026 Latinx Voices Author Series: In Conversation with Cristina Rivera Garza

Join us for an interview and book signing with acclaimed Mexican author Cristina Rivera Garza, 2024 Pulitzer Prize–winning author of "Liliana’s Invincible Summer: A Sister’s Search for Justice."

A writer, historian, and professor, Rivera Garza’s groundbreaking work explores memory, gendered violence, language, and the U.S.–Mexico border through hybrid forms that interweave the archive with intimate narrative. Her visit continues a remarkable lineup of writers — including Xochitl Gonzalez, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Elizabeth Acevedo, Sandra Cisneros, and Kali Fajardo-Anstine — presented by the Stone Center for Latin American Studies and the Newcomb Institute, with support from WWNO.

The event is free and open to the public. RSVP here: https://forms.gle/cLJZmDNyPAj28MrV6

We loved seeing the impact of our Guatemala summer institute on display at the Louisiana Conference of the Social Studies. Tulane Senior Professor of Practice Brooke Grant, alongside Dalsia Morel (ELL Teacher at Young Audiences Charter Schools) and Jessi Nicholls (Literacy Coach at KIPP Leadership Primary), presented about their experience traveling to Guatemala this summer. Both Dalsia and Jessi are candidates in Tulane’s Master of Arts in Teaching program and shared the unit plans they developed after the institute. Find all of our free online curricular resources and sign up for our newsletter to learn about future summer institutes at the link in bio.

Thank you to everyone who made last week’s workshop “Día de Mu***os in México: Tradition, Memory, and Representation” at the such an enriching experience!

Dr. Catherine (Catie) Prechtel gave an insightful presentation on the history, symbolism, and cultural significance of Día de Mu***os, and artist educator Cynthia Ramirez guided participants through hands-on altar building and shared the traditional elements of creating ofrendas.

Participants left with books and lesson plans to bring the tradition into their classrooms in a culturally-informed way.

Repost from

Today is the last day of Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month! Thank you to Cynthia Ramírez and the Stone Center for Latin American Studies for helping us go out with a bang with these fun Día De Los Mu***os crafts 💀🕯️🏵️🇲🇽

At the Library, we celebrate Hispanic and Latinx voices, stories, and experiences all year long.

Download the NOLALibrary app, visit our website, or stop by your neighborhood Library locations for recommendations on what to read, watch, and listen to.

Plus, keep an eye on our calendar for Spanish-language and bilingual programming year-round!

For example, on the 3rd Wednesday of every month, we host “¡Díversión Bilingüe en Familia!” A bilingual family fun night from 5-6:30pm at Central City Library.

Visit nolalibrary.co/eventos to explore all Spanish-language programs at the Library.
