VOTE TODAY!!!
Another hundred people just got off of the train
And came up through the ground,
While another hundred people just got off of the boat
And are looking around
At another hundred people who got off of the plane
And are looking to vote . . . ---- a nod to Stephen Sondheim’s “Company”

Year of the Woman?
When Bella Abzug was elected to Congress in 1971 she was one of 13 women (less than 2.98%) of a total of 435 individuals serving in the House. Two women out of 100 were in the Senate. In 2018, there are 84 women (19.3%) in the House and 23 women (23%) in the Senate.
Bella Abzug was a leading liberal activist and politician in the 1960s and 1970s, especially known for her work for women’s rights. In the 1960s, Bella Abzug became involved the anti-nuclear and peace movements and helped organize the Women Strike for Peace in 1961. To promote women’s issues and to lobby for reform, she helped establish the National Women’s Political Caucus with Betty Friedan and Gloria Steinem, and to have a greater impact on the political process, she served in the House of Representatives from 1971 to 1977.

The people who sought to lead this country in the last 30 years have all been flawed. They accomplished some good things and they sometimes blundered badly. The Bushes ( #41 and #43), the Clintons (Bill and Hillary), Dukakis, Dole, Gore, Kerry, McCain, Romney and Obama – these were by no means perfect individuals. However, they were all curious people with a sense of history and decorum who understood the presidency and our form of government. Each brought different strengths and weaknesses to the job, but all seemed to have the basic skills to play the various roles a president has to play. To varying degrees of success, each was able to be compassionate and aware of the needs of others. Donald Trump is not capable of performing the role of President of the U.S. He cares little for history or tradition. He plays a very short game and seems incapable of recognizing that there might be truth in the world. He quite simply is not fit to lead. If not checked on November 6th, he will continue to erode the very structure of our democracy. VOTE NOV 6th.

Politics and governing need not be a partisan game. At the height of the Great Depression, Democratic President Franklin Roosevelt and Republican Mayor of NYC Fiorella LaGuardia forged a partnership that worked to benefit all people regardless of political party. Who among us wants to gamble with the future of our planet by refusing to acknowledge that the climate is changing? Who among us wants to see mass shootings continue in churches, theaters and schools just because some selfishly want to protect their access to military style weapons? Who among us would not want to see this nation’s roads, bridges and rail modernized? Who among us wants to deny a decent education to any child, regardless of race, creed or income? We need to vote on November 6th!

“Few men are willing to brave the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world which yields most painfully to change.” - Robert F. Kennedy 1966

This is a time when politicians must have courage to speak truth to power but few around Donald Trump seem willing to do so. Members of the Republican Party who are currently running for political office seem unwilling to put country ahead of party. Once the decision to withdraw from public life is made, their voices seem to return. Check Donald Trump and VOTE NOVEMBER 6th

The responsibility of a free press is to hold government leaders accountable for their actions or inactions, to publicize those issues that need attention, to educate our citizens so they can reach informed decisions, and to connect our people with each other in civility and respect.
We need a free press. Trump is plain wrong when he declares the press the “enemy of the people”. However, supporting the idea of a strong, independent free press should not suggest that the press is beyond criticism. There is often a rush to report a story before all the facts are known. Too much news is both “Breaking” and repetitive at the same time. Frivolous stories of pop culture claim as much time as stories of substance and importance. A well-meaning press corps often chases the shiny object proffered by Trump rather than provide a reasoned, cohesive narrative of the truly important.
A free press is never perfect but it is essential. To check the vicious attacks on a free press, please VOTE on Tuesday, November 6th.

The boys of October are back. The Athletics, Yankees, Rockies, Brewers, Braves, Dodgers, Indians, Astros and Red Sox are all in the hunt. By Halloween we should know. Enjoy Baseball this October but please come back to reality and vote on Tuesday November 6th. It’s important!

Stone and Press Gallery celebrates artists who have worked in traditional printmaking techniques to create fine art that is accessible and collectible for all. Artists, past and present, have used these techniques to promote an idea, to protest an outrage, and even to produce the original 'selfies'.

“Baseball isn’t just a game. It’s life being played out on a field – a field of dreams – on diamonds of green, where players pursuing their dreams try to be the best they can be on the grandest stage of all – where men become boys and boys become men, all speaking one universal language without uttering a single word.”- Tom Tatum

Baseball breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall all alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops.”- A.
