Nova is the third portrait in ’s collection. I asked how he ended up with such unique looking mutts. He said “they find me” 💞 RIP to these three perfect mutts: Nova, Guera, Funky.

Guera was painted in 2023, Funky was painted in 2019.

“Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.”

Heart dogs are the once in a lifetime dogs who are forever part of you. The ones you bond with like no other. The ones that are the hardest to say goodbye to.

I understand this sentiment because Bauer was my heart dog. That’s why when Phil’s family commissioned me to paint this incredibly sweet and candid photo of Philip and his heart dog, Theo, I was honored. His mom and fiancé, Faith & Olivia, teamed up to make it a big surprise for Philip’s birthday back in October. This was his response:

I cannot thank you enough for this!!!! I'm beyond honored to have this painting. There were so many tears, even as I type this there are so many tears. The tears started to dry up and then I read your sweet card. You're def part of our family, and we're so thankful for that! Thank you, a million times thank you.

I have done countless pet portraits for their family since I started Painted Paws back in 2012. Besides the very first portrait Faith commissioned me to do (of Max), this one was the most special. I definitely shed tears while painting the portrait, but it was all worth it to know how much this painting means to them. I am so grateful to this family for all the support they’ve given me through both Painted Paws and Lillian Aguinaga Art.

I’m also thankful to know what it feels like to have been bonded with my heart dog, Bauer. Although it hurts to not have him here anymore, his memory makes me laugh and smile daily. I truly hope everyone gets to experience that love! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays ♥️💚♥️💚
