Overreach… l’shana tova…?
We hear this word; its violent violations. We see it as Israel genocides Palestinians in Gaza and overruns its boundaries in some hypocritical ploy; couching that genocide in cries of self defense and simply to save a monster’s career. We see unapologetic anti-Semitic white supremacists use the decoy of anti-semitism to prosecute intelligentsia and criticism to protect their thin skins and ready the masses. (Yes, these are traits that Jews have been known for though we do not seem to be living up to the expectations of our ancestors to always be questioning) How can we, the world, witness this genocide and do nothing because of fear of some other thug in power? We watch war and horror in Sudan and Yemen and hear nothing of it.
We see all sorts of overreach enriching rich and famous people while we cinch our belts and ready ourselves for worse. It is us; the people who allow and encourage it all. We cry foul from “both sides” but it is the structure we enable that allows this. Regarding the feds, we see overreach of our freedoms, speech, press, expression, and hypocrisy regarding our personal autonomy. We hear it referencing corporations (less now that we have become numb to the devastation of extractive corporate capitalism and corporations are people but immigrants are not) We leave ourselves vulnerable as we are forced to shrink in the wake of power. Our walls are permeable, and as in the past, soon we will be the target.
This piece, multi-functional as a vase and candle holder reminds us year round on this equinox and Rosh-Hashana that a new world is possible through thoughtful criticism and a willingness to change and grow. By speaking truth to power with a willingness to be ungovernable.
Please visit it until November 8
thank you to everyone who helps me empathize harder with those who need most

off kilter….

Thinking… As we just passed the 20th anniversary (that word?) of hurricane Katrina and nearing the 1 year milestone of hurricane Helene, I am thinking a lot. Katrina was one of the most influential experiences of my life. It bonded me to my community and the mindset of mutual aid, creative responses to crisis and joy, and empathy. Most importantly empathy; but empathy through the lens of systemic inequalities and an increased level of self awareness and understanding of privilege. I was 20 years younger during Katrina. Obsessed with bikes and working tirelessly with new friends to fix and give bikes to people to get around and get on with life and recovery. 19 years later, flashing to moments of siphoning gas, and retching in the bushes when I smelled that flood mud which is now familiar to everyone in my community, my response was more internal and an intimate experience. I helped neighbors and tried to do more when I realized I was in a position to bear witness and tell a story through the work I was making and it was time to get back to it.
For this exhibition, I played with the tension between concept, materialism, and process. What materials can mean on their own and in combination. How process affects implications of material and can change meanings and how the meanings of each choice can be interpreted. The works in this show evolved from a conceptual framework initially centered around the parable of the golem**, that grew into an urgent witnessing to the devastation of Hurricane Helene and the re-election of DT.
Thank you .marketing for the beautiful photos, thank you and for including me at the exhibition

This is a long belated appeal to contribute to one of the most transformative organizations in the field of metalwork. acts as a connecting entity for people of similar minds to coalesce around metalwork. It has been a lifeline for me to remain connected to long time friends and colleagues anf fellow co-founders and . Now new people are stepping up and in, old farts willingly step back. This is the cycle I wish came more naturally for people in power. This year the brilliant org had its first in person event and have many more planned in the upcoming years. Get involved! You do something too! At least, please donate to help these 2 orgs continue all incredible programming and collaborations.

It is the solstice, so dark and cold. I end the year frantically preparing for my first solo museum show. It will open on Feb 9 with a reception on the 16. Check their calendar since i have no understanding of time or space. It tells the story of the last few years and the story telling has gone into overdrive since the storm. The symbology started to use waves that turned into terrifying ph***ic shapes that wash over the earth, eroding building blocks and washing out into drips. The state of this world. Climate crisis and patriarchy, the hatred that the people in power hold to the people they claim to serve. The acceleration we continue to contribute to...
