Artwork of the Week: “Rural Mississippi,” by Mary Clare Sherwood (1868-1943).

In this bright and vibrant landscape, billowing clouds and colorful trees fill the sky around a small cottage where laundry dries on the line. An African-American woman in a white apron walks on a dirt road away from the quaint home. The lush Impressionist brush work calls to mind the work of fellow Mississippi artist Kate Freeman Clark.

The painting is in a beautiful, period gilt frame and ready to add to your collection. We invite your inquiry.

We are pleased to present a whimsical drawing by Robert Gordy (American | New Orleans 1933-1986).

Known for his distinctive style of repetitive forms and stylized arrangements, Gordy worked in a wide variety of mediums, such as the felt tip marker drawing presented here in “Still Life with Cast Shadow.”

Originally sold in 1969 by the venerable Galerie Simonne Stern, the whimsical still life presents fun opportunities for interpretation.
