The Arts District New Orleans stands in solidarity with our Black Community. We choose to use the hashtag to promote a silencing of our usual social media presence to amplify the the black voices in the fight for racial justice. We recognize the powerful impact our Black community has on creating art and culture in New Orleans. We look for feedback on any ways the New Orleans Arts District can aid the movement by positively promoting Black Art in this time.

"I acknowledge this work is painful. How do you digest the ills of slavery? How do you celebrate the survival of its ancestors? Of my ancestors. I acknowledge their existence and truth through this new body of work. I embrace the legacy and life they prayed I would have. The works I have created for this exhibition explore the truths and consequences of slavery, incorporated with a futuristic approach to the subject. I have printed images on raw cotton, gauze, leaves, and assimilated an infusion of found objects and contemporary images. The works question humanity. The work breathes conversation."-Johnson, 2019 .

I made something for you, because in hard times I don't know what else to do but create. It is a self-portraiture video (link in bio) - all about how to do it (techniques) and why we do it. I'd be so grateful if you headed there to watch, it's a big one (thank you for featuring it). I go through 3 different photo shoots, including this one, and the editing. 🌙
During dark times I try so hard to shine. For myself. For people I've only met online but feel a distinct and poignant kinship with. For anyone. Because we all have our gifts, and mine is to be a light in the darkness. For those in quarantine, distancing, for anyone who wants a simpler and more meaningful way of creating. 🌙
I extended the theme of Self-Portraiture until this Sunday. My hope is that this video simplifies the process for those who may be a bit uncomfortable with that way of creating. And that it brings joy to all. Submit submit submit. One person who submits will be chosen at random to win a special prize. Create create create. Because in the dark, we must all be the light that guides the way for someone else. For ourselves. Art - creating - sharing - making - ACTION - that is the way forward, always. 🌙

Hi friends! Yes, we are still open for now, although they may change any day. We at Søren Christensen Gallery believe in the power of art as a respite in these challenging times. As we already have a very small staff, and typically do not have crowds in the gallery, we are remaining open for now, with limited hours. We will also be limiting the flow of people in the gallery, and if you'd like to come by please call (504) 569-9501 for an appointment. We will then welcome you to come see this gorgeous show, we just ask that you don't touch any surfaces and keep a 10ft distance from staff. We also know that in these challenging times, artists and other creatives will suffer greatly. We hope that you will consider purchasing art if you can; we offer payment plans and pricing accommodations for most of our inventory. DM or email [email protected] with inquiries. Browse available work by our talented roster on our website, link in bio. (Fun with photoshop by ).
