What a joyful Juneteenth celebration at the Louisiana Children’s Museum!

Families gathered to honor freedom, culture, creativity, and community through hands-on activities, storytelling, music, and movement. Guests explored the meaning behind Adinkra symbols through handkerchief stamping, created colorful collage quilt squares with the Helis Foundation John Scott Center, and danced, drummed, and sang along with ROOTED Cultural Tours as we celebrated African heritage and the rich cultural traditions that continue to shape New Orleans.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in commemorating Juneteenth and making this day of learning, reflection, and joy so special.

Celebrate Juneteenth with LCM and Whitney Plantation!

We are proud to partner for the 4th Annual Juneteenth Freedom Festival. Join us on Saturday, June 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Whitney Plantation for live musical performances, local food trucks, a vibrant Black artisan marketplace, and free tours.

From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., visit the LCM team in the Imagination Kids' Zone for a hands-on Adinkra stamping art activity. Originating from West Africa, Adinkra symbols represent important values, ideas, and proverbs that have been passed down through generations. Children will explore the meanings behind these powerful symbols while creating their own unique artwork to take home.
