Harold Albert "Zip" Wick was born February 26, 1918, in Brantford, North Dakota, to Rudolph and Beatrice (Schock) Wick. He married Elaine Isabelle King on September 29, 1945, in Stanley, North Dakota. Their children are Ron, LaDonna, Sandy, Joni, Sara, Harold, Rudy, Howard, Tim, Roger, Tracy, Kristina and Melissa. Zip attended country school in the Brantford area before completing high school in New Rockford, in 1935. After a lifetime of farming the North Dakota prairie and raising 13 exceptional children, Harold retired and moved to the Black Hills of Rapid City. He and his soul-mate, Elaine, led active lives by each other's sides for nearly 63 years. What he lacked in words, he made up for with his loving hands and tenderness. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the highlights of his life. Gardening, traveling, fishing, sports watching and card playing were some of his many pastimes. He had great compassion for all animals. When he wasn't traveling the world with his family, he could be found in his yard with a rake in his hands keeping his world beautiful. Fishing took him from the Cheyenne River in North Dakota, to the big waters of Alaska, and to the riverbanks of South Dakota. He enjoyed a good steak, a Jim Beam, and a rousing game of pinochle, where Zip was always the preferred partner. Peace seemed to be with Harold, most always and in most ways. He was a gentle soul with patience. Harold passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2008.
