Mark Drew |
Suit & Tie Rap (Grape)(Wu-Tang) (2023)
16.5 x 11 in. Multi-Color ScreenPrint, Split Edition of 200

This Edition features lyrics from Wu-Tang Clan’s 1993 cult classic “Protect Ya Neck” and was released by the Artist in Yellow and Grape Color-ways.

Mark Drew is an Australian artist based in Tokyo since 2009, and co-founder of China Heights Gallery (Sydney, AU). His narrative-based work takes on the format of a comic still, using rap lyrics as dialogue for Peanuts characters. As is common practice in hip hop music production, the artist “samples” rap lyrics, and characters from the Peanuts gang, redefining the meaning of both. Ranging from the existential to the absurd, the artist creates a new universe for the wholesome Peanuts characters, calling to question the meaning of life, perseverance, relationships, and loyalty.

Martin Whatson (b. 1984) is a Norwegian-born and based stencil artist. While studying Art and Graphic design at Westerdals School of Communication, Oslo, he discovered stencils and the urban art scene. After following graffiti and its development, he started his own stencil production 10 years ago in the winter of 2004.

Martin has a continuous urge to search for beauty in what is commonly dismissed as ugly, out of style, or simply left behind. He looks for inspiration in people, city landscapes, old buildings, graffiti, posters, and decaying walls. This interest in decay has helped develop his style, motives, and composition and he enjoys creating either unity or conflict between materials, backgrounds, motives, and human intervention. His artistic expression started more political but has developed into a more subtle expression blending graffiti, stencil art, and decay together.

Inspired by artists like Jose Parlá and Cy Twombly. His abstract graffiti and stencils are a mix of urban scenes showing the development of a wall’s lifetime. He uses grey tones as a basis but add’s vibrant colors to break the monochrome concrete expression and bring a splash of life to his motives. Since his artistic debut in 2004, he has had several solo shows and participated in many group exhibitions nationally and in international metropoles like Tokyo, Paris, London, New York, and Los Angeles.

CB Hoyo |
Do Whatever The F*uck Makes You Happy (2022)
12.9 x 19.01 in. Fine Art Print on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag with Deckled Edges. Edition of 560.
Reviving the neon cultures and graffiti aesthetic of later twentieth-century art, Cuban artist CB Hoyo revisits this tradition to develop his own artistic voice.

The bold pops of color and Warhol-esque references that Hoyo incorporates into his work might be seen by some as an homage to past masters, however, for Hoyo these references are part of his conversation with these figures. His background as a self-taught artist means that these past voices serve as his only teachers, and thus by using the language of their work Hoyo has developed his own unique manner of conveying the joy and brightness that he sees in the world.

Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1995, Hoyo is a self-trained artist that spent his youth in the Dominican Republic and Europe. He has enjoyed the exhibition of his work around the world in various locations. Recent solo exhibitions include “Fake Rothko: Imitate Modern” in London, England (2017); “One Arts Club: Fake Like Judas” in Milan, Italy and “CB Hoyo, Made in China” in Hong Kong (2018); and “Nothing is Real Nothing is Fake It's all Relative” in Antwerp, Belgium (2019)

Ryo Laksamana |
Motorbike Vibes (2022)
21 x 30 in. Archival Pigment Print on Moab Estrada 290gsm Paper with Hand Deckled Edges. Edition of 175

Originally from Banyuwangi in East Java, Laksamana Ryo is a recent graduate of the prestigious Institut Seni Indonesia in Yogyakarta. This young artist’s career, however, began much earlier while he was still a student, and in the past few years, his artwork has been exhibited extensively within and beyond the borders of Indonesia.
At a glance, Ryo’s paintings are charmingly whimsical; pop surrealist artworks skillfully done in an illustrative style reminiscent of the world of anime. The classical visual veneer of his artworks, almost fairy tale like in appearance, broach subjects that are in contrast quite contemporary.
Upon closer examination, the subjects this young artist’s works address are far from frivolous. Among them, are critiques of traditional patriarchic society, social behavior that is quick to judge others, as well as the fluidity of modern-day gender and gender roles, to name a few.
The level of maturity already seen in this young artist’s aesthetics, and his deep awareness of the world around him, are indications that this artist will most definitely have a bright future as a visual artist ahead of him.

Susumu Kamijo |
The Beach Lovers (2020)
26 x 20 in. Archival Pigment Print, Edition of 40.

The Beach Lovers, like many of Kamijo’s works, depicts brightly-colored, abstracted poodles that evoke a sense of joy. His works take root in figuration, with some influence from Japanese printmaking, but the end result lies in a more abstracted realm due to Kamijo’s stylized placement of shapes and interpretation of texture. Born in Nagano, Japan in 1975, the artist received his MFA from the University of Washington in 2002 and currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.

After helping his partner, who is a dog groomer, and attending dog shows and competitions, Kamijo began depicting poodles in his paintings. “For me, I’m interested in the shapes of the show poodle. People take a lot of time to grow their hair...I just like the show poodle’s form.” Kamijo also notes that the inclusion of a palm tree in The Beach Lovers is unique, as his works usually solely depict the dogs.
