ABOUT THIS PHOTOGRAPH : WAIKIKI BEACH
Richard Silver uses a photographic technique known as Tilt-Shift. This practice has taken off over the last few years in the fields of photography and advertising. It consists of giving the impression of looking at a model or a miniature. However, the spectator is looking at a real and full-size subject. The playful use of soft focus and the clarity alters its interpretation and creates an optical illusion. Contrary to belief these effects are not obtained through retouching. The photographer really does obtain this perfect illusion at the moment of shooting. This technique requires highly specialized equipment which integrates a view camera with a body in front and behind separated by bellows. These elements permit orientation of the plane of focus, adjusting and tilting movements which correct the perspective and the clarity of the picture and modify the depth of field. The soft focus affects the foreground and the background and the extremely reduced depth of the tilt-shift resembles those found in macro-photography. The combination of these different elements immediately leads the viewer to believe that it is a reduced model

ABOUT THE ARTIST : MARIO ROSSI
Mario Rossi was born in Naples in Italy but has long been based in Rome. He considers this city to be the point of departure and arrival of all things, and it has inspired his photographic production since the 1970s. The photographer represents reality by seeking to express the formal relationships between surfaces, lines and colours. This geometric interpretation of the world is based on humans in movement and constitutes the focal point of the interpretation.

ABOUT THIS PHOTOGRAPH : FROM THE EMPIRE IV
Urban space stimulates Laurent Dequick's artistic creation. He stumbles onto both the remains of the past (structures, architecture or monuments) and symbols of contemporary cities (signs, road signs or advertisements). The photographer systematically seeks access to myths that certain images have created, transmitted or conveyed within collective memory.
ABOUT THE ARTIST : LAURENT DEQUICK
This 40 year old photographer is an architect by profession. There are signs of this in his work as it is first of all a reflection on contemporary cities and more specifically about the proliferation of modern urban space. Laurent Dequick’s purpose is to accurately convey an impression of frenzy which results from a density of population and activity in urban areas:
“Along the streets, the lights, the noise, the traffic, the swarms of pedestrians, the blend of smells, are so fascinating that no single shot can entirely capture it. Do choices have to be made? I don’t think so; I don’t want to…”
To translate this urban life “congestion” into an image, the photographer does not shy away from the juxtaposition, superposition or inlaying of shots. With the same intensity he overlaps photographs representing architectural complexes, main traffic routes and people. He condenses the images like the city condenses the sum of its inhabitants’ lives. Dequick’s style is reminiscent of cubism in its ex*****on close to abstraction and in his representation of permanent movement.

ABOUT THIS PHOTOGRAPH : SUGAR
In 2009, Formento+Formento took the decision to travel across the country in their Silver Air Stream. On a minimum budget, the couple decided to visit 25 states to photograph 50 women over a period of 5 months. Formento+Formento’s feminine figure is a glamorous stereotype. You can envisage her on Route 66, fleeing west. She seems vulnerable but determined. The photographs call forth the fantasies associated with the figure of a young girl in distress. With her suitcase in a service station, a motel or stopping in a disused building, there is a discrepancy between the physique and the beauty of the woman and the shabby decor that she crosses. The risks that she takes can be imagined and the strength of the despair which push her further still. She is never seen reaching her final destination. Her wandering will never come to an end.
ABOUT THE ARTIST : FORMENTO - FORMENTO
BJ and Richeille Formento met in 2005. Originally from Hawaii, BJ moved to New York in 1999. He was then 35 years old and worked for the greatest photographers: Mary Ellen Mark, Hans Neleman and Annie Leibovitz. He also perfected his technique alongside Eugene Richards and Arnold Newman. In 2001, he began working as a freelance photographer. He therefore combined commercial and art photography.
Until 2005, Richeille worked in the fashion industry as artistic director and designer for big brands as well as for independent labels. Married three months after they met, BJ and Richeille decided to join forces.

Pascal Bobillon was born in 1962 in Paris. A self-taught photographer, he has used digital capabilities to create a body of work on the borders of abstraction and representation. Ever watchful, over time he has constituted a gigantic personal photo library on his travels. These photographs are archived and may remain ‘dormant’ for many years. Time creates his work and the emotion that forms the basis for capture settles and evolves. A day comes when the artists feels the need to use the images taken, sometimes years later.
