Hey !

Hope to see you in Washington Square Park on Sunday.

There’ll be a Chalk-In, where we will be collectively saying goodbye to one of the most individual guys on the scene - Hash Halper, a New York original and quite a character; who recently took his own life.

Johnny is one of the most upbeat and positive people on the scene, a terrific artist and administrator and has really put on the map.

Hope to see everyone else too.

Pull My Daisy was a film made in 1959 by artist Alfred Leslie and the legendary Robert Frank and featured several prominent members of the Beat Generation: Jack Kerouac, Dick Bellamy Alice Neel, Gregory Corso, Peter Orlovsky. and .

A group that Hash Halper - - would have fit into seamlessly.

Creative, original, not too concerned about money, didn’t always approve of how the world worked. A true individual, a true character and without a mean bone in his body.

Halper, who had his first solo show with us earlier this year, recently took his own life.

This Sunday July 11 in Washington Square Park,
there will be a memorial “chalk-in,” starting at 9 am and going all day.

We’ll be drawing chalk hearts and some of his favorite words: love, peace, unity.

Come down if you can so we can all say goodbye to Hash together.

We are hardly the flag waving America First types here at Art of Our Century.

That said, our director is so far to the left he won’t even touch the right wing on his chicken dinner.

And the rest of the team is pretty much on them same wavelength.

But we often fail to appreciate others before us who have made our freedom of choice possible.

On this July 4 weekend, let’s remember artistic and literary trailblazers like .lennybruce.o_o Andres Serrano and “Piss Christ” and Seven Words you Can’t Say on Television from .carlin.official and oh boy, far too many to list.

That’s my friend on his boat the other week.

He is a corporate lawyer who looks at things a little differently than me. Love him nevertheless.
