Most people know Idelle Weber as a titan of American Pop Art and photorealism. Fewer know what she did next.
In the 1990s, she turned inward — and started painting skies.
I had the privilege of representing Idelle during this period and watched these works come out of her studio firsthand. I was enchanted by the light, the atmosphere, the depth — and how so much life could be packed into such a small portal.
The Little Darlings series: imagined landscapes, no reference, no document, painted with a loose spontaneity that carried everything she had absorbed over a lifetime — Albers' color theory, the atmospheric drama of Turner and Constable.
