“The way chrysanthemum petals form in a consistent, logical pattern and how bugs gather on these flowers expresses the natural state of the world. The pearlescent paint shines like light and water pouring down onto the paper dependent on the viewing angle. Although the water used to apply this paint has evaporated, its existence remains in the shapes of droplets.”

“Plum blossoms have such a strong scent that their presence can be felt even during the night. In this painting, the moon represents nighttime and the sky is filled with gold to represent the scent of plum blossom.
This piece also represents modern-day Japan. The name of Japan’s current era, Reiwa, is based on a poem in the Man'yōshū:
It was in new spring, in a fair (rei) month,
When the air was clear and the wind a gentle (wa) breeze.
Plum flowers blossomed a beauty's charming white
And the fragrance of the orchids was their sweet perfume.”

“The inspiration behind this piece was a coalescence of deep pink cherry blossoms on a slope, appearing like clouds in the sky. This image is of those cherry blossom clouds spreading out into a gold space from left and right.”
