Marisa Newman Projects UTA BEKAIA
My Sweet Fragile Rabbit
May 23 - July 27, 2022

Marisa Newman Projects opened its physical space in 2017 in Korea Town (Midtown Manhattan), intending to expand the appreciation of art beyond the limits of traditional spaces. We produce exhibitions, limited editions, events, and publications, to highlight the myriad ways artists work today. We work with the artists of every stage of their career - yet we focus on the artists who have been overlo

oked or underrepresented. Marisa Newman Projects serves as a platform for artists to realize their most experimental work - probing the new territories for their creative practice. Artists had used our space as their own studio, a safe space to reveal and heal their trauma, to curate the exhibitions of their long-time peers, and to create unexpected yet insightful intergenerational dialogues.

While postmodernist thinkers have successfully problematized our assumptions about how we know, what we know, and who we are, telling us that language determines them all, humanity has been insistently placing its own existence, as well as that of the rest of life on Earth, in dire jeopardy - poisoning water, land and air. Postmodernism’s deconstruction of the autonomy of the individual and its breakdown of the borders of the subject are consistent with the awareness ecology brings to us that our human actions have effects far beyond our intentions and desires and that our dreams of technological control are fantasy.
Jackie Brookner from ‘The Heart of Matter,’ Art Journal Summer 1992
