🌠 Now on view: 2026 School Programs & Partnerships Exhibition 🌠

The Queens Museum is pleased to present artwork created by students from five partner schools across our borough. These young artists have made artwork inspired by Queens Museum’s permanent collection and rotating contemporary exhibitions.

A special thank you to the schools participating in the Cultural After-School Adventures Program (CASA): Public School 99Q, Public School 135Q, Intermediate School 10Q, BELL Academy, and District 30 Pre-K Centers at Q397

The residencies were facilitated by Queens Museum Teaching Artists Sunny Moxin Chen, Jacob Hicks, Michelle Melo, and Grethell Rasua

🌟 We're still glowing from our 2026 Annual Gala earlier this month! We were so pleased to honor artist Derrick Adams () and recognize Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. () as our Community Champion Award recipient.

Guests participated in a Paddle Raise, with donors entered to win one of four exclusive VIP experiences courtesy of Forest Hills Stadium (), The Governor's Ball (), Metropolitan Park/The New York Mets (), and New York City Football Club (). Together, the Auction and Paddle Raise led by Sotheby's Christy W. Coombs () helped raise vital funds for the forthcoming Suna Children's Museum and the Queens Museum's ongoing exhibitions and programs. Afterwards, DJ Quiana Parks () brought the perfect energy to close out the night at our After Party!

A special thanks to our incredible vendors and partners: The August Tree (), Burmese Bites (), Lady M (), Sophie Stone (), and Taylor Creative Inc. () for bringing their magic to the evening.

Our 2026 Gala was definitely one for the books, and we feel incredibly grateful to everyone who made it possible. Thank you to all of our guests, honorees, presenters, vendors, and supporters for making it an unforgettable evening.

🌐 On Monday night, we celebrated art, community, and culture at our 2026 Annual Gala!

We were thrilled to honor artist Derrick Adams (), whose exhibition “View Master,” will travel to QM next year. Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. () was recognized as our Community Champion Award recipient for his steadfast support of the Museum and the future of arts and culture in Queens.

The evening was marked by heartfelt speeches from Board Chair Paula Kirby, outgoing President and Executive Director Sally Tallant, incoming Executive Director Debra Wimpfheimer, NYC Cultural Affairs Commissioner Diya Vij, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr., Board Trustee Anwarii Musa, and honoree Derrick Adams, plus a beautiful a ca****la performance by students from Frank Sinatra School of the Arts (). 🎶

Our Live Auction was led by Sotheby’s auctioneer Christy W. Coombs () and featured four exceptional works generously donated by artists Derrick Adams, b. Robert Moore, Katherina Olschbaur, and Guy Stanley Philoche. Following the excitement of the program, guests moved to the After Party DJ’d by Quiana Parks () who kept us dancing until the lights came on! 🎉

We are so grateful to all of our guests, honorees, presenters, vendors, and everyone who made this year’s Gala one to remember. 🗂️ Join us on Saturday, May 23 for Community Archiving Day, a program organized in collaboration with our current exhibition "About Us: The American Imaginary."

Meet over 20 organizations preserving memory, resilience, and beauty across the five boroughs! Oral history projects, digital archives, and institutional repositories will be on-site to share their materials and discuss opportunities for research, collaboration, and more. The afternoon will also include:

12:00 pm – 1:15 pm: Corona Collection: An Oral History Project by the Louis Armstrong House Museum
3:30 pm – 4:30 pm: My Baryo Project by Claro de los Reyes

🛠️ Workshops
12:00 pm – 2:00 pm: Queens Monuments, a workshop led by Queens Memory Project with Meral Agish.
1:30 pm – 3:30 pm: Neighborhood Memories: Collaging Our Collective Home, facilitated by Charanya Ramakrishnan of the Louis Armstrong House Museum.

Join us for a special New New Yorkers Printmaking Workshop this Sunday 05.17! This program is presented in partnership with the EFA Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop [.rbpmw] on the occasion of the exhibition "Mohammad Omer Khalil: Common Ground" at the Blackburn Study Center.

Inspired by the work of Queens-based artist Mohammad Omer Khalil, who created self-portrait prints in response to the Kodak Pavilion at 1964–1965 New York World’s Fair, participants will learn how to make their own collagraph prints with found and recycled materials. This bilingual (English/Spanish) workshop for adults invites anyone curious about printmaking to explore its creative possibilities.

The Queens Museum is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to its Board of Trustees: artist Aliza Nisenbaum and human capital strategy executive James White.

Nisenbaum has been involved with the Queens Museum since 2012, teaching workshops and collaborating with the local community; in 2023, the Museum presented "Queens, Lindo y Querido," a major solo exhibition of her paintings. White brings a broad background in cultural transformation and leadership, with work centered on storytelling, belonging, and expanding access across the arts and community sectors.

Their appointments reflect the Museum’s continued commitment to leadership that values a breadth of experience, artistic practice, and community engagement. Please join us in welcoming them as they help shape the Museum’s next chapter.

✨ The 2026 Queens Borough Arts Festival opens this week! Join us at the Museum to experience the artistic achievements of Queens public school students in grades Pre-K through 12 — student artworks will be on view through May 17.

The NYC Public Schools Arts Office and Queens Museum congratulate all of the student artists and send heartfelt thanks to the countless educators and administrators who support the students in developing their craft.
