On view now: ‘Club Bar’ benefit fundraiser curated by Marissa Graziano

From the press release –
‘Club Bar’ reframes the manipulative environments of cinemas, casinos, and dive bars within the gallery context, exposing how space, artifice, and participation condition spectatorship and shape audience behavior. Its materials underscore this duality: wood paneling revealed as vinyl, framed images reproduced from dive bar ephemera, clamp lights spray-painted to mimic glass fixtures, carpet thick with the suggestion of stale cigarette smoke. The space is unmistakably artificial, however, unlike a traditional gallery, the audience is integral to it. Visitors are invited to play roulette, navigate a table maze, or linger by the pool table. Pay, play, drink, bet, repeat. The rhythms of these activities mirror the systems they reference, revealing the gallery itself as an active agent where the act of looking becomes the subject under scrutiny.

Bradley Milligan and Nathan Friedman, 8 ball, 2026, Scrap wood, body filler, latex paint, felt, India ink, buckets, cans, jars, 36 x 72 x 30 in [price on request]

“The body is the body / it is alone / and needs no organs / the body is never an organism / organisms are the enemies of the body.”
— Antonin Artaud, To Have Done with the Judgment of God, 1947

Antonin Artaud wrote that the body is never an organism — that organs are the enemies of the body. He meant that to organize flesh is to discipline it, to make it serve a logic it did not choose. The works in Slow Peel No Ends begin somewhere close to this refusal. They do not illustrate the argument. They enact it — in pigment, in material weight, in the slow accumulation of marks that have no single origin and no clean conclusion.

Opening tmrw @ 53 Orchard: ‘Slow Peel No Ends’ curated by Marco Tulio de la Sierra ft TJ Bohm, Gabriella Moreno, Hanneline Røgeberg, and Bobby Smith

From the press release —
None of these works are interested in the body as subject. They are interested in what the body already knows — that to exist in material is to be marked by it, and to mark back. The exchange is never clean. It was never meant to be. Slow Peel No Ends does not resolve this. It holds the site open and asks you to stand inside it long enough to feel the pressure on both sides. And on and on the spits of membrane dribbles on.

Divas, we have an urgent dispatch for you:

Below Grand is pleased to present Slow Peel No Ends, Curated by Marco Tullio, opening this Saturday 5-7 at 53 Orchard St

From the press release: “The body has always known what philosophy takes centuries to admit: that surfaces are not where things end. They are where things happen and grow from. Slow Peel No Ends brings together TJ Bohm, Gabriella Moreno, Hanneline RØgeberg, and Bobby Smith — artists working in different materials and registers who share an understanding that skin — literal or analogous — is not a container but a condition. A site of pressure, inscription, contamination, and witness. What the body cannot speak it writes on its own exterior. These works read that writing back.”

we see you Saturday I love you kiss kiss

Final week: ‘Tomorrow maybe’ curated by Zakariya Abdul-Qadir & Eric Geithner

Reconstruction always risks collapse. Jordan Corine Cruz, Alison Kuo, and Aidan McLellan each oscillate around Tomorrow maybe’s heart: looking backward to consider our inherited voices and believing in them eventually. Cruz remolds and reroutes domestic narratives; Kuo deifies accumulation, threading idols of past into the present; McLellan rewards play and delays breakdown. Together grasping intangible visions to build approximations.
