This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating someone who has been at CMOM’s heart for over 40 years.
— our Founding Board Chair, champion, and one of the most hands-on supporters any institution could ask for — joined her daughter Emily Tisch Sussman on the Mother’s Day episode, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the love she shared for CMOM and the children of New York City.
As you’ll hear in the episode, Laurie grew up as the only girl in a big, loud family — and she has carried that strength, warmth, and determination into everything she does. As a mother, grandmother, and the matriarch of the Tisch family, she brings that same spirit of care and fierce dedication to the people and causes she loves — including CMOM.
And she shows up for CMOM in ways that go far beyond a title. She’s on the floor reading to kids when she visits. She travels to Rikers Island to see our outreach programs firsthand and understand their impact. She pushes us — our staff, our leadership, the vision — toward something bigger and better. And she is one of the most passionate voices behind our journey to a new home on Central Park West.
She is the embodiment of what CMOM believes: that nurturing a child’s growth, showing up for them, and never refusing to stop pushing them toward their potential is the most important work there is.
To Laurie — thank you for being our biggest cheerleader, our north star, and a reminder of what it looks like to truly show up for the people you love.
❤️ And to every mother, grandmother, caregiver, and person who shows up every day for a little one — whatever that looks like for your family — happy Mother’s Day. 💐The work you do, seen and unseen, shapes who these children become. That’s everything.👏👏👏
